Community Outreach

Our club activities reach out to the community, beautify the community, educate the public about gardening and environmental issues and support the environment. See below and Here for details.

DGC Partners/Supports…

Indian Prairie Public Library: We support IPPL gardens and the education provided there, provide planting and maintenance of planters, provide displays in the IPPL cases, and more. We co-host community events such as seed swaps, bioblitz and iNaturalist education, Annual National Garden Week programs, Pollinator Week, Oaktober, etc.

Darien Park District: Provide Support for and tours of the park native habitats and tree planting.

Gift of Carl: Annual Support for Arbor Day.

DuPage Monarch Project Associate Member: Supporting their mission with our programming and outreach.

We Garden in the Community…

St. John Butterfly Garden: Native pollinator space in church parking lot.

St. John Memorial Daylily Garden: Display garden in church parking lot.

DGC Sprouts St. John Learning Garden: The “Learning Garden” is maintained by DGC and DGC Sprouts. Produce is donated to the local food pantry. Flowers are donated to local senior assisted living centers. The garden also serves for educational programming for the Sprouts members and families.

Darien Milkweed Patch: Rescue and maintenance of local spot for milkweed plants and education.

VFW Peace Memorial Gardens: The garden is maintained and spruced up for all VFW services held there.

Aspired Living Westmont Gardens: Planting and maintenance of pollinator garden, vegetable garden, and a terrace display garden at local senior assisted living.

Other Outreach Volunteer Work We do in the Community…

DGC Garden Therapy Team: We work with seniors at three assisted living facilities, providing monthly interactive programs related to gardening and nature.

DGC Sprouts Youth Club: Extends our mission with education and garden opportunities for youth and their families.
