“The Serendipitous Garden”
When Melissa moved into her home seven years ago, she was greeted by an expansive property that was in dire need of some tender loving care. The undefined planting beds, dying trees, and undesirable and invasive vegetation left her feeling overwhelmed. However, this rookie gardener wasted no time in rolling up her sleeves, determined to bring life back to her garden. Little did she know that this journey would transform not only her garden but also herself. She joined the DGC in 2021, a decision that would prove to be a turning point in her gardening journey. With a growing understanding of gardening principles, learning about how appropriate planting helps curb eroding soil and affects water drainage, and with the help and encouragement of more experienced club members, her once haphazard garden started taking shape onto a deliberate, purposeful and whimsical oasis. For the gardener it has become a process of growth and self-discovery.
